KEY POINTS:
There is disappointment for National MP Jackie Blue that her private member's bill aimed at establishing a register for organ donors has been voted down in Parliament.
Dr Blue believes the issue is not over and will be looked at again in a year or two, but she says by then valuable time will have been lost. Opponents to the bill cited overseas evidence which suggests registers do not increase organ donor rates.
However the matter is not dead and buried, as under the Government's Human Tissue legislation there is scope for an organ donor register to be established.
