Schools are coping well with the tight labour market and 99 per cent of teacher positions are filled, Education Minister Chris Carter says.
The ministry's annual staffing survey shows vacancies represented 0.9 per cent of all full-time equivalent staffing entitlements across schools, he said.
The survey showed there were fewer overseas-trained teachers this year than there were last year.
Technology remained the most difficult secondary subject to staff but there were fewer unfilled positions than last year.
