National Party list MP Jono Naylor says he will leave Parliament after just one term.
The Palmerston North-based MP and former mayor of the city said today he would not contest the 2017 election.
"It has been a privilege to serve as an MP. I'm grateful to the National Party and to the people of New Zealand who have given me the opportunity to serve as an MP," Naylor said.
"The decision not to stand next year is one I have given a lot of thought to, and I believe the time is right for me to look at new opportunities."
Naylor said he was announcing his decision now to allow time for National to find a replacement. He would serve out the remainder of the Parliamentary term.
