KEY POINTS:
A police officer making an inquiry in the Tararua district was greeted with a running chainsaw and doused in petrol.
The officer was believed to be making inquiries over driving charges.
When he approached the Pahiatua property a man moved toward him with a running chainsaw and then threw petrol at the officer.
The armed offenders squad was called in.
No one was injured.
A 41-year-old man was charged with possessing an offensive weapon, resisting police and driving while disqualified.
He was to appear in Palmerston North District Court today.
