A Korean student who has been missing for a week was not suicidal or in trouble, say police.
Young Wook Ma, also known as Jack Ma, 23, was last seen at his home in North Shore, Auckland, last Monday.
He had no credit cards or cash but and there had been no activity at his bank account.
Senior Constable Paul Herman said the missing man's friends were doing everything they could to find him but had little to go on.
"They have been very, very proactive but all you can go on is what you have got," he said.
He said it was unusual for a Korean to disappear without telling someone where he was going.
"It is out of character for him ... because he has got very close mates and if there was an issue with the family or something those mates would say," Mr Herman said.
"That is what makes it a bit more concerning. We are doing everything possible."
Mr Ma was 176cm tall, of medium build with black hair.
Mr Herman appealed for information from anyone who knew Mr Ma or where he may be to contact him on (09) 478 1717.
