Police are working to identify an elderly woman whose body was found on Dunedin's St Clair beach this morning.
The woman's body was found near the wooden piles on the beach by a man walking his dog.
He contacted emergency services after discovering the body above the tideline just after 6am, Senior Sergeant Matt Scoles said.
She was found clothed and with no identification but police hoped to release further details that may identify her tomorrow.
A post-mortem examination was being carried out this evening but the death was not believed to be suspicious.
