KEY POINTS:
Detectives believe a 40-year-old man charged with rape and sexual violation of two women he met on separate occasions through a New Zealand dating website could have struck before.
Police want women who have met a man calling himself "Houndman" on dating sites to contact them.
Detective Simon Everson, of Waihi CIB, said the man had been using the website for 2 1/2 years, and police believed there could be further victims.
Mr Everson warned people to be careful when using online dating services.
The first alleged attack happened on November 9 and the second on November 23.
"On both occasions the women met the man and returned to his rural home outside of Huntly where the alleged offences were committed," Mr Everson said.
The man used the pseudonym Houndman in both cases.
"Because the offender has been a member of the site for 2 1/2 years we believe there may be further victims," Mr Everson said.
"We would be interested in hearing from anyone who may have had contact with a person using this identity."
The man was arrested on November 29, and remanded on bail.
He will appear in Huntly District Court on Friday.
Mr Everson said people using internet dating sites should take basic safety precautions.
"When meeting with someone for the first time, meet in a public place, such as a cafe. Inform someone where you are going and who you are meeting."
