A group of people claiming to be tree trimmers have been targeting elderly people in the Wellington suburbs of Johnsonville and Churton Park, police warned today.
Sergeant Vaughan Mead, of Johnsonville, said police were alerted this week to the group which was offering to trim trees for a competitive price.
"What we know is that when they have approached residents who have declined their offer to trim their trees, they then become very persistent and intimidating," Mr Mead said.
"The cost is also very high for the work involved."
The people involved were described as Pacific Islanders, believed to be driving a white ute.
"We want people to beware and phone police if they see this group in their neighbourhood or have had any visits of this nature recently, which will help police to put a stop to this unwanted behaviour," Mr Mead said.
