Police are reminding people about the dangers of the liquid drug GHB after a couple were rushed to hospital in a critical condition on Monday night.
North Shore area commander Les Paterson said a woman got "as close as you can get to death" and her partner was "also in a bad way" after taking the drug.
The couple are expected to recover.
Mr Paterson said GHB was not common on the North Shore, but he warned: "This stuff will kill you, make no mistake."
