An advertisement offering a car 'wrapping' service is a "tried and true" scam, police are warning.
The scam offers payment for motorists willing to have their car wrapped in sign writing.
Motorists who respond to the advert are sent a cheque to lodge in their bank account, with instructions to then immediately transfer the money to an off-shore account which pays to have their car 'wrapped' in sign-writing.
But the cheque bounces, leaving the victim out of pocket, and in most cases in debt to their bank for the off-shore money transfer.
"We are appealing for anyone who has been a victim of this scam, and has not been spoken to by police, to contact us as soon as possible," said Detective Matthew Kay of the Counties Manukau financial investigation team.
