Police in Christchurch are warning cricket fans not to repeat the unruly behaviour that marred the Eden Park match between the Black Caps and Australia last weekend.
"We want the game to be the event, not the crowd," Senior Sergeant Peter Cooper said today before the final match at Jade Stadium tomorrow in the three match Chappell-Hadlee one-day series already won by Australia.
Police would make a "real push" around the management of alcohol at the stadium and Mr Cooper appealed for drinking spectators to treat the event with respect.
"We're not trying to stop the fun, but please have some respect for the rest of the crowd who are there to see the game," he said.
Australian cricketers were pelted with beer cans and other objects at Eden Park in Auckland last weekend.
Police arrested 15 people and ejected another 46 fans from Westpac Stadium in Wellington on Wednesday during the second match in the series.
