ATM skimming scammers have targeted two machines in Auckland and one in Hamilton.
Police have found a fascia attached to an ATM on Ponsonby Rd. The contraption was fitted over the card slot area and was designed to capture card information.
Detective Senior Sergeant Hywel Jones said it was early in the investigation but police would be looking at closed circuit TV.
He said another ATM on Auckland's Karangahape Rd and one in the Hamilton suburb of Dinsdale were also targeted.
Mr Jones said more than one bank was targeted in the last 10 days but he would not say which banks or ATMs had been targeted.
"We're not sure of the exact amount of money lost at this stage but it appears that whoever is responsible for the skimming is organised and probably not working alone," Mr Jones said.
He said a member of the public found the machine when they had difficulty putting their card in the slot.
Mr Jones said anyone who has noticed anything suspicious around an ATM should call police on (09) 302 6400.
