Police are appealing for the victims of an alleged assault in Lower Hutt on Saturday night to come forward.
A witness told police he saw four Polynesian men indecently assault a woman and assault her male companion in the subway at Waterloo Railway Station between 10pm and 10.30pm.
Detective Sergeant Dean Simpson, of Lower Hutt CIB, said the witness reported seeing the attackers, probably in their late teens or early 20s, approach the couple as they walked through the subway.
He told police they then assaulted the man and sexually assaulted the woman.
Mr Simpson appealed for the alleged victims to contact police.
He said a couple of people had come forward and given police information, but more witnesses were needed.
