Police have appealed for help from drinkers who may have used cellphone cameras to photograph a brawl which left a man badly injured at the weekend.
The 23-year-old victim is in a serious but stable condition in Auckland Hospital after apparently suffering a heart attack.
Police said the man was injured during a brawl involving 10 people outside the Supper Club in Beresford Street near Karangahape Road at 8.15am on Saturday.
He was found unconscious and resuscitated by ambulance staff.
Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Beard said some people may have used their cellphones to take pictures of the brawl.
"Anybody who was there who took some photos or video... we would appreciate it if they contacted us."
It was one of several violent incidents around Auckland during the weekend.
A 20-year-old man had his skull fractured when he was bashed at a party in Massey, Waitakere City, early yesterday morning.
Ambulance officers needed police help to make their way through about 50 brawlers who were drinking, fighting, throwing bottles and damaging cars.
The man was in a serious but stable condition in hospital. Several arrests were made.
In Green Bay a policeman was hit on the head by a bottle and needed several stitches at a party involving more than 100 youths.
He was likely to be off work for several days.
