Police are looking for the driver of a flat deck utility who may have witnessed a boy being struck down in Whakatane yesterday.
They say the driver of the vehicle on James St could be a useful witness in a collision which left a 7-year-old boy seriously injured.
He was hit by a vehicle about 3pm. The vehicle involved stopped at the scene.
Police are looking for the driver of a dark coloured, flat deck ute 4x4, possibly manufactured in the 1980s or 1990s. The driver was believed to be Maori and possibly in his 30s. His car was travelling west on James St in the vicinity of Horrocks Ave.
They are asking the driver or anyone who knows who it was to contact Whakatane police on (07) 308 5255.
