KEY POINTS:
West Auckland police have warned young women not to walk alone in daylight in a Henderson reserve.
It follows a daylight attack when a young woman was sexually assaulted last weekend.
Police said they were urging all young women to exercise extreme caution when walking alone in Henderson Park off Henderson Valley Road.
Detective Constable Nick Salter said the young woman was walking alone on one of the bush paths in the popular reserve about 4pm last Sunday.
"A male offender has attacked the victim and indecently assaulted her.
"The victim has been able to hit her attacker and has then run for help."
He said police were appealing to anyone who saw the distressed young woman. She was wearing a pink dress and was running from Henderson Park and along Great North Road.
The attacker was a solidly built part Maori or Pacific Islander, 1.8m tall about 6 feet tall.
Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Constable Salter on 09 839 0600.
