Chart-topper Tiki Taane's offer for a squad of police officers to perform on stage with him at New Zealand's top music awards has been turned down.
The Always On My Mind singer fell foul of the law in April when he was arrested on charges of disorderly behaviour while chanting "f*** the police" at a gig in Tauranga.
The star said he was singing lyrics from a controversial song by American rap group NWA and the charges were dropped in September after mediation.
It's understood Taane last week put out an olive branch to the boys in blue. He invited police from Tauranga to join him at the Vodafone NZ Music Awards at Auckland's Vector Arena on Thursday to perform his single Freedom To Sing, a track inspired by his brush with authorities.
"The offer was heartfelt and Tiki has worked very hard to redeem himself with the police and has struck up a good relationship with them in Tauranga," a music industry source told the Herald on Sunday. "Unfortunately the invitation was politely declined."
