Police are still trying to identify a body found in a crashed and burnt out stationwagon yesterday morning.
Police said the Subaru was found on the Aparima Bridge near Mossburn, 100km northwest of Invercargill, at 4am.
The vehicle had crashed into the bridge before bursting into flames.
The sole occupant was found dead by emergency services.
Forensic techniques would be used to identify the badly burned body.
