Police are treating the death of a man whose body was found in the Wellington suburb of Johnsonville as "suspicious".
The body of a man in his 30s was found inside a house on Broderick Road yesterday. Police were called to the address shortly after 6.15pm.
NZPA news agency said it understood the man's body was found stabbed in bed.
Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Thornton said forensic scientists and police are currently at the address carrying out a scene examination.
"We are in the early stages of this investigation and police are keeping an open mind as to how this man met his death. We are treating the death as suspicious and have a large team of police staff working on this investigation."
Mr Thornton said he would like to hear from anyone who was in the Broderick Rd area yesterday afternoon and might have seen or heard anything suspicious.
"We hope the likes of taxi drivers, courier drivers, delivery drivers, and people who were in the area yesterday afternoon, will contact us, if they recall seeing or hearing anything suspicious."
"I am urging anyone with any information into this homicide investigation to come forward immediately, by phoning Wellington police on (04) 381 2000."
The name of the deceased will not be released until next of kin have been advised.
