A person whose fireworks led to a large blaze at Paritutu Rock on Friday night has been tracked down by police.
New Plymouth police said they had spoken to the person responsible for setting off the fireworks.
An investigation was still being completed and any decision on charges would be made in coming days.
Police thanked members of the public for the "fantastic response" that led to the person being identified.
