Police will today speak with a 14-year-old boy who was beaten by a group of armed teenagers who stormed his Auckland school while he was in class.
The boys, from various schools, entered Lynfield College in Mt Roskill, armed with a softball bat, about 12.30pm on Monday while the victim was in health class. They started punching - and possibly kicking - him in front of about 28 of his Year 11 peers and their teacher.
The group was led to their target by a Lynfield pupil. Principal Steve Bovaird said he had not decided a punishment for that student.
A female teacher tried to intervene but one of the boys put his arm out to hold her back.
Mr Bovaird said the attack was over within a matter of minutes.
"It was all so quick, the other students managed to stay calm. When they left, the teacher locked the students in the classroom so no one else could get in, then she came straight [to the school office] and we called police."
He had spoken with local principals about the incident but would not reveal what schools the teenagers were from.
The victim, who had not returned to school yesterday, was not seriously injured but suffered bruising and swelling.
It is understood the attack stemmed from comments on a networking site.
"There have been some comments by various individuals on Bebo," Mr Bovaird said.
The college is reviewing security.
