Police to speak to man over 'possum'

Police are today hoping to speak to a man suspected of trying to lure children to get into his car at a Bay of Plenty beach.

The man was seen parked at Papamoa, east of Tauranga, trying to get young children to look at a stuffed possum.

Senior Sergeant Mark Pakes told NZPA today they believed they had identified the man.

"We are going to have a chat with him today," Mr Pakes said.

"That way we can find out exactly what this man's intentions were."

Mr Pakes said the incident was a timely reminder for parents to tell their parents to be wary of strangers.
