Police are to view security camera footage from the workplace of missing Korean student Young Wook Ma, who has not been seen for nearly two weeks.
It is believed the 23-year-old, also know as Jack Ma, left his Unsworth Heights home on June 12 between 2pm and 5pm, taking only his house key and cellphone with him.
Records show the phone was active in the Glenfield area for two days before the battery died.
Mr Ma does not have money with him and his bank account has not been used.
Extensive searches of the parks and reserves surrounding Mr Ma's house have failed to find any sign of him. Media publicity has resulted in two possible sightings - one in Browns Bay and one in the Manawatu - but they have not come to anything.
Police spokesman Kevin Loughlin said police had spoken with Mr Ma's friends, colleagues and family but still had little idea about what may have happened to him.
The next step in their investigation will be to review security camera footage from the supermarket where he worked part-time.
It is hoped the footage may shed some light on Mr Ma's behaviour and movements at work before he vanished.
Mr Ma's family say they have no reason to believe the WINTEC computer student would run away or take his own life.
They have fears he may have been kidnapped but police say that is unlikely as there has not been any ransom demand.
Mr Loughlin said concern was growing for Mr Ma's safety.
"There is mounting concern for his safety and wellbeing. We are at a situation where this young man has now been missing for 12 days and there is no indication of his whereabouts."
Anyone with information about Mr Ma is asked to contact Browns Bay police on (09) 353-0410.
