KEY POINTS:
Police involved in the Taser trial have used their weapons 100 times in the last eight months and fired the electrically charged weapons on 15 occasions.
In the latest incident police attending a domestic violence incident in Lower Hutt were told a man had a shotgun, axe and knives.
When police arrived on the scene, the man came out of the house with his two sons and was told to get on the ground but refused.
Police allege the man threatened to kill the officer and wanted to be shot himself.
Police dogs were placed either side of the man but because of the man's sons being close-by they were not used.
The officer fired his Taser and the man was handcuffed.
The year-long Taser trial by 170 frontline police in Auckland and Wellington began in September last year.
