A 60-year-old Taranaki man will appear in court today after he allegedly brandished a knife and tomahawk at Patea residents and had to be tasered by police.
Distressed members of the public rang police saying the man had a large boning knife and a tomahawk and was threatening people around the small south Taranaki town on Saturday morning, Sergeant Ivan Smith, of Hawera police, told the Taranaki Daily News.
The man was subdued with a taser and no one was hurt, he said. He will appear in the New Plymouth District Court today to face weapons and threatening charges.
