Waikato police investigating the stabbing of a two-year-old boy say they have spoken to "a person of interest to the inquiry".
Detective Sergeant Rod Carpinter of Matamata-Piako CIB said police hoped to complete their scene examination of the toddler's Te Aroha home this afternoon.
The incident happened at the Centennial Ave house about 3pm yesterday.
The boy's condition is described as good and he is expected to remain in Waikato Hospital for at least two days.
"He is as well as can be expected in the circumstances and had a bath this morning," Mr Carpinter said.
"A person of interest to the inquiry has been spoken to by investigators but we are unable to offer any further information at this time."
Mr Carpinter said area inquiries and witness interviews were continuing.
"We're looking into whether there was any suspicious activity in the area prior to the stabbing."
