A man who carried a firearm down Auckland's Queen St last night was thrown to the ground and arrested by armed police.
Amateur video of the incident, shot from a building on upper Queen St shortly after 11pm, shows traffic backed up as numerous police cars with flashing lights block the street.
Several armed police officers can be seen in the video, with one officer taking shelter behind an open patrol car door as he trains his pistol on the offender.
The video then shows the offender holding his arms on his head before being firmly pushed to the ground from behind by a police officer, who then puts the man in handcuffs.
Auckland police spokeswoman Noreen Hegarty said police were called by a member of the public about 11.15pm.
