KEY POINTS:
Police are hoping security camera footage will help them identify three men involved in the shooting of a south Auckland liquor store co-owner last night.
The man is in a critical condition in Middlemore Hospital after being shot in the chest during the armed holdup of his store in Riverton Drive, Manurewa last night.
Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Pizzini of Counties Manukau Police said police would review the security camera footage closely today.
"The images are good quality but whether it helps us track the offenders down is hard to say," he said.
"One of them was wearing a facial disguise and the other two were wearing hooded sweatshirts."
Mr Pizzini said one of the men was about 183cm tall and the other two were shorter. All three were described as Maori or Polynesian, but it was harder to be sure of their ages.
"One was wearing a sweatshirt with distinctive white Maori-style writing on it."
The armed men entered the store shot the owner before taking money and alcohol and then fleeing.
Mr Pizzini said about 14 police staff had been put onto the investigation team.
"We're treating it in the same way that we would a homicide inquiry because of the seriousness of the victim's injuries."
