KEY POINTS:
Police are struggling to find a link between the two victims of driveby shootings in Gisborne at the weekend.
A mother and her teenage daughter were inside their Nelson Road home watching television on Sunday night when they heard two loud bangs.
After initially thinking it was fireworks, the pair went outside where the daughter saw the tail lights of a vehicle driving slowly away.
When they went back inside they discovered pellet holes in one of the bedrooms. About 10 minutes later shots were fired at a stationary car in King Street.
Gisborne Detective Sergeant Theo Akroyd said today there did not appear to be any bad blood between the people in the house and anyone else.
"The connection in our view is that probably the same person has fired them, but we're struggling to find a link between the two victims," he said.
Mr Akroyd said the apparent lack of motive was very worrying.
"It's certainly a concern to us that, if it is a random thing, people are just letting off shots."
