A Feilding woman has her family pet back after a double dose of dognapping.
Sherree Ransom was reunited with her staffordshire bull terrier Buddy on Monday as the result of a police sting.
When Buddy went missing in April, Ms Ransom spent weeks handing out fliers before getting a call asking "what it was worth" to get Buddy back. She paid $300.
On October 6 Buddy went missing again. This time Ms Ransom received a text message asking for $600 but this time decided to go to police.
They organised the sting and arrested two men. One of them has been charged with stealing Buddy and both with demanding money with intent to steal. They have been remanded to appear in court later this month.
A delighted Ms Ransom said there would be no more rewards. "We keep Buddy with us and take him to work," she told The Dominion Post.
