KEY POINTS:
A couple wanted in connection with a stabbing in Orewa, north of Auckland, on Saturday, are continuing to elude police. There have been no reported sightings of the pair despite the release of photographs and descriptions of them two days ago.
Orewa police Detective Sergeant Stan Brown told NZPA today they believed the couple were still in the North Island.
The stabbing victim, a 26-year-old man, was believed to have been embroiled in an argument with the couple at the reserve before being stabbed 12 times in the face, abdomen and back.
He has been told that he will lose an eye.
He was discharged from Greenlane Hospital in Auckland after emergency surgery on his eye.
The couple police would like to talk to are described as a Maori or olive-skinned Caucasian man, aged 25 to 35 years, of solid build and 1.72m to 1.78m tall.
He had long dreadlocks, blue jeans and was bare-chested.
The woman was Caucasian, 23, with long black hair. She was wearing a short-sleeved black top and possibly a summer dress.
The pair were seen leaving the area in a small black station wagon, similar to a Mitsubishi Libero.
Anyone with information is asked to call Orewa police.
