Police sound warning after car break ins

Masterton police have appealed to people living in the vicinity of Dixon, Bannister and French streets to be vigilant about locking their cars and to report any suspicious behaviour, after several cars were broken into.

Senior Sergeant Warwick Burr said the break-ins on Tuesday night were the latest in a number of car break-ins in the town.

At 11.30pm on Tuesday, a person in French St heard noises and then discovered the front driver's side window of his vehicle had been smashed and the glovebox had been rummaged through.

Nothing was taken from the vehicle.

Mr Burr said that following the break-in the complainant saw two men wearing dark clothing running off.

Later, police received a report of another car break-in at the Warehouse Stationery carpark on the corner of Dixon St and Bannister St.

The driver's window was broken and a quantity of eggs were stolen.

Mr Burr said the Dixon St/Bannister St area in particular had seen a higher than usual number of car break-ins and he was advising people in the area to be aware of the threat.

Anyone who saw anything suspicious or heard unusual sounds like smashing glass should contact the police.
