Police say a car found today that was pushed off a cliff at Maori Bay on Auckland's west coast was reported stolen from the city's central suburbs.
Senior Constable Marty Spear said the red BMW was pushed off Waitea Road, hit and damaged a toilet block and then landed on its side in the carpark above the famous gannet breeding grounds.
A custodian opening the car park this morning found the vehicle, although Mr Spear would not say at what time this was or when the car was reported stolen.
"If this is what it appears to be, a stolen car intentionally pushed off a cliff, well I can't think of too many things that more idiotic. It's just crazy."
