Police were shocked to find a 13-year-old boy completely drunk and vomiting on the footpath in Gore's Main St.
The youth had been taking vodka shots after school and was "blind drunk", Gore youth aid officer Senior Constable Steve Heyrick told the Southland Times yesterday.
"It's pretty shocking. For someone of this age to get in such a state over a one-hour period, he must have just tipped up the bottle."
The incident happened earlier this month on a Monday afternoon.
The boy also vomited in the patrol car while being taken to his mother's workplace, Mr Heyrick said.
St John ambulance staff examined him before releasing him into his mother's care.
A 16-year-old boy, who apparently provided the alcohol, was being dealt with by police.
