Police seize $1.2m worth of methamphetamine

Police have seized $1.2 million-worth of methamphetamine destined for sale in the Manawatu.

The P bust was a joint operations between Customs and Police, who seized 1.2kg of the drug and made two arrests yesterday.

The operation, which began in January, resulted in the interception of 10 parcels addressed to several Palmerston North properties.

Police carried out a search warrant on a Palmerston North address yesterday where methamphetamine, a shotgun, ammunition and a large quantity of cash were found.

A 35-year-old woman was arrested and charged with multiple counts of importing and supplying methamphetamine.

A 33-year-old man was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of methamphetamine. Both appeared in Palmerston North District Court this morning.

Detective Sergeant Dave Thompson said he was "delighted" with the outcome of the investigation.

"The work with our partner agencies such as New Zealand Customs is not only working to take methamphetamine out of the supply but also identifying the people responsible for the trade in this destructive drug. It is driven by pure greed without a thought for the toll on our community."

Also yesterday, three people were arrested over a 200kg haul of meth precursor ephedrine, just a day after Customs intercepted a record-breaking $20 million of meth at Auckland Airport. The value of both drug seizures is $170 million.
