Police are searching for the owner of a kayak which was seen floating down the Manawatu River through the Gorge.
There was no sign of anyone with the red/orange coloured kayak and the river was running very high due to the rains.
Police have asked the owner of the kayak to contact them and to confirm where it could have come from.
Kayakers are also urged not to go out on the swollen river.
Heavy rains mean the rivers and streams are unpredictable and unnecessary risks may result in stretching emergency service resources further as they attempt to deal with flood related incidents.
