A 30-year-old woman has been left deeply traumatised after she was attacked from behind and dragged into a bush and raped early on Sunday morning.
The woman was walking alone on Victoria St towards the Halsey St and Wellesley St intersection when she was attacked in Victoria Park, opposite Franklin Rd, about 2.35am on Sunday.
Detective Andy King, head of Auckland City police's adult sexual assault team, said the attacker took her money and ran. The woman flagged down a taxi on Victoria St West.
Mr King couldn't say if a weapon was used in the assault. The woman is recovering with friends and is "in a huge amount of shock".
She described her attacker as blond, in his 30s and about 1.7m tall. He was of muscular build and wore blue jeans and a dark top or jacket.
Mr King said the attack was "extremely concerning" and he urged anyone who knew the attacker to contact Detective Joanne Old on 09 302 6410.
