A man died yesterday after being found lying bleeding outside a North Shore workshop.
The man was found on a commercial property on View Rd, Glenfield, about 1.30pm, with a wound to his upper body.
Police have so far refused to say how he died, but people who worked nearby told the Herald they were told he had been stabbed.
Police said they were treating the death as suspicious, and an autopsy is expected to be carried out today.
Kim Taing, who works at a garage near where the body was found, said he had seen the man before but hadn't spoken to him for a few months.
He said the man was Asian and his name was Paul. He had not seen him yesterday and was shocked to hear he had been found dead.
The man's body was still at the scene late yesterday, and cordons were expected to stay until this morning.
Someone who worked nearby described the scene around where the man was found as messy.
"It's a weird set-up. There's a forklift there that never moves."
A police spokesman said anyone who was near View Rd yesterday afternoon and who saw anything suspicious should contact North Shore police on (09) 477-5000.
Meanwhile, police said last night that the death of a young man in central Auckland was not suspicious. Officers were called after a body was found in Victoria St about 1.30pm.
