Police seek witnesses to fatal crash

Police want to hear from anyone who witnessed a fatal crash in Hamilton on Saturday afternoon.

Israel Maki Tane Porter, 27, of suburban Gordonton, was killed when his car collided with a van on the outskirts of the city just before 4pm.

Waikato police said they had called off a pursuit of Mr Porter's Mazda 323 shortly before the accident.

The car was seen weaving in and out of traffic at speeds of more than 100km/h.

Mr Porter was dead when officers reached the crash scene.

Six passengers in the van were taken to Waikato Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation team would like to hear from anyone who saw the blue Mazda travelling at speed on Gordonton Rd, between Borman Rd and Puketaha Rd, about 3.50pm on Saturday.
