Police seek witnesses to fatal car hit

Kingi Te Ao Reneti had been on on his way to play at Mountfort Park with his sister.

Police are seeking people who may have seen an incident in which a 5-year-old boy was hit by a car outside his home.

Kingi Te Ao Reneti was playing with friends outside his home on Sykes Road, Weymouth, around 12:50pm on Saturday when he was hit.

He was taken to Middlemore Hospital where he died later that day.

Serious Crash Investigator Constable Andre Taylor said police hoped witnesses would come forward.

"We are hoping to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision as they can offer valuable information that is vital to this investigation," he said.

"We are also looking for any witnesses who saw children playing on the roadside near the intersection with Ashmere Lane or near the park opposite Ashmere Lane around this time."
