KEY POINTS:
Police are seeking witnesses to a smash which left two people dead and six injured yesterday.
Inspector Ian Brooker said the crash happened on State Highway 1 near Huntly at an intersection with Fisher Rd.
'The crash involved a southbound people-mover with six people aboard and a northbound car with two adult occupants.'
The 51-year-old female driver of the van and the 43-year-old male front passenger died at the scene. Both were from Hamilton.
The four other people in the van suffered minor injuries.
The driver of the Nissan Primera car, a 47-year-old woman from Temuka, is in Waikato Hospital with moderate injuries.
"Initial reports indicate that the southbound vehicle may have pulled out into oncoming traffic to overtake," Mr Brooker said.
Waikato Serious Crash staff were investigating the crash.
