Police seek witnesses to armed robbery in Whangarei

Police are seeking witnesses to an armed robbery in Whangarei.

Two men armed with a pistol or cut-down rifle robbed a shopkeeper in Sunnyside Foodmarket on Station Rd of cash and tobacco just after 5.30pm on Saturday.

Both men wore dark coloured bandannas on their faces and sunglasses.

One is described as tall, slim, wearing knee length shorts and a dark coloured jacket with the hood over his head. The second man is described as of fat build and was wearing grey track pants and a dark jersey with a bucket style hat, said police.

Following the robbery the men left on foot.
