KEY POINTS:
Police searching for missing Auckland tramper Irina Yun are seeking the help of a Russian translator so they can examine her diary.
Ms Yun, 36, went missing in Mount Aspiring National Park a week ago, while attempting to tramp the Cascade Saddle track from Mt Aspiring Hut in the West Matukituki Valley, to the Dart Hut on the Dart River.
A Department of Conservation ranger had warned her not to attempt the route because of bad weather, but she was last seen at 9.30am heading up the Cascade track.
Constable Mike Johnston told the Otago Daily Times Ms Yun's diary was recovered in her backpack on Monday.
Police hope to have it translated to English to understand Ms Yun's intentions.
The search for her has been hampered by bad weather.
A severe weather warning forecast heavy rain in the area today.
A final search was expected to take place when the weather cleared on the weekend.
Searchers do not expect to find Ms Yun alive, however her family and friends continue to hope.
Ms Yun, of Korean descent, was raised in the former Soviet republic of Kazakhstan.
