Police are appealing for information after a suspicious man was seen running from a retirement village on the night an elderly man was bashed in his unit.
Louis Watts, 85, was knocked unconscious for 1 hours during the attack in his unit in the Bethesda Village retirement centre in Wiri, South Auckland, on Wednesday.
Detective Senior Sergeant Karyn Malthus said the suspicious man was seen jogging out the village's rear gates about 7pm before stopping to talk to another person on the corner of Inverill and Islay Sts.
Police want to identify the man, described as in his mid to late 20s and wearing dark trousers and a dark top, or the person he was talking to.
Meanwhile, Mr Watt's condition was improving but he was still suffering from discomfort and was easily tired, Ms Malthus said.
