KEY POINTS:
Police have arrested and charged a man with rape after an assault in Wellington city centre eight days ago.
However, they are still appealing to a group of men who helped the victim to come forward.
"This group of men provided help and safety to the victim and may well have seen the assailant and could hold vital information," a police spokeswoman said.
The woman was in Tory St on April 29 when she was allegedly approached by the man who forced her into a toilet at knifepoint, ordered her to remove her clothes and sexually attacked her. A second man came near the toilet during the ordeal and spoke to the man in question.
The victim then spoke to four men on Taranaki St who walked with her down the street then flagged down a taxi and assisted in getting her home.
Another police spokesman said they were hoping to talk to those men because they believed the assailant was following the victim and they could have seen him.
The man, 33, appeared in court on two sexual offences yesterday.
