KEY POINTS:
The accident that caused the death of a woman in Panmure yesterday is not a hit and run, say police.
Police spokesman Kevin Loughlin said early inquiries suggest the 60 year-old ran in front of a four-wheeled drive and was hit.
The driver of the four-wheeled drive stopped at the scene and gave their details to a witness of the crash but both left the scene before police had a chance to talk to them, he said.
The 60 year-old woman was taken to hospital where she later died.
A post-mortem will be carried out today and the serious crash unit is investigating.
Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the accident to come forward.
They would also like to speak to the driver of a Nissan four wheel drive.
Last night police were looking for the driver of a truck carrying a mini-skip who witnessed the accident.
He has since come forward.
Police say there were a number of people near the scene of the crash and they would like to speak to all of them.
Anyone with information should contact Sergeant Matthew Ford on 09 302 6400.
