Police are on the hunt for two men who barged their way into a Barrytown home early yesterday morning armed with rifles, leaving the three occupants "extremely shaken".
Police communications manager Barbara Dunn said the occupants of the house were involved in a physical confrontation with the intruders and one person received minor injuries, although police did not believe any shots were fired.
Anyone who was in the Barrytown area between midnight and 4am yesterday has been asked to contact Greymouth police as they may have information relevant to the investigation.
Investigators say one of the offenders was wearing a distinctive maroon coloured hoody or similar with white writing on the front.
Ms Dunn said they did not believe the attack was a random event and did not have concerns for other householders in the area.
