Police are currently looking for Stephen Christopher Rowe, who has a warrant to be recalled to prison.
Rowe is 47-years-old, 183cm tall and of solid build.
He is heavily tattooed, including on the neck and throat areas, police say.
Police said Rowe had links to the Wairarapa and Wellington regions and also had gang connections.
He has a history of serious violent offending and shouldn't be approached.
