Auckland police are looking for a man who stole a truck in South Auckland then abandoned it in Henderson after being chased by police.
The five tonne truck is used for hauling rubbish skips.
It was pursued at speeds of around 70km/h along winding roads in poor weather before the driver stopped near thick bush in West Coast Road, leapt out and disappeared into the undergrowth.
A dog handler lost track of his trail around 3:30am this morning.
Police are also investigating burglaries in the area that may be connected to the theft of the truck.
