Police seek information on missing pair

Police have grave concerns for a Christchurch mother and daughter whose disappearance they say is completely out of character.

Marilyn Zidich, 62, and daughter Selina Madden, 35, have not been seen at their home in suburban Belfast since Thursday morning.

Ms Zidich's elder daughter called police when she arrived home from work that day to find their car was gone and both women missing.

Detective Sergeant Rusty Rayne said the daughter had "real concerns" for their wellbeing.

"She's really worried ... she arrived home Thursday afternoon and they weren't there. She hasn't seen them since and it's very out of character."

Mr Rayne said their disappearance was not suspicious but police had real concerns for their wellbeing.

A neighbour said she had not seen or heard anything unusual before police showed up on Thursday night.

The mother and daughter were believed to have driven somewhere in a grey Fiat Tipo hatchback with the personalised licence plate ZIDICH.

Police were conducting searches and talking to people the women had been in contact with before their disappearance.

They were also running background checks and checking phone and bank account records.
